BOOK DESCRIPTIONS - I try to include as much information as possible
about a book. That will usually include publisher, book number
and date. Certain publishers will be abbreviated such as Ball
for Ballantine, GM for Gold Medal and Berk for Berkley. Some
other acronyms are: SFBC: Science Fiction Book Club, QPB:
Quality Paperback, SBS: Scholastic Book Service. Often
printing information such as 1st, 13th etc will be shown.
First Editions are identified as "PBO" for PaperBack Original
and "1stEd" for hardcovers. "1stHC": First Hardcover. First
American: "1stAM", First British: "1stUK".
CONDITION -
Here is a brief description of my grading guidelines. I'm
more careful when grading Very Fine and Fine since most
collectors want excellent condition. Prices, of course, vary
with condition.
VERY FINE (vf) - As new, near mint copy; no wear is apparent, virtually
perfect, pristine. My highest grade.
FINE
(fine) - Excellent copy, no cover tears
or creases, very minor edge and spine wear. White pages. Very
minor color flaking. No writing inside or bookstore stamps.
Usually an unread copy.
VERY GOOD (vg) -
Slightly worn, minor creases or spine roll possible. Page
edges may be off-white but not stained. A decent copy but
obviously has been read several times.
GOOD (good) - Very creased, very worn. Variety of problems possible:
soiled, water damaged, spine torn, etc. A filler copy in your
collection.
READING COPY (rc) -
Very poor, possible
loose pages, all pages are there unless noted.
I USE SHADES
of grading in between those listed above, such as
"vg+", "vgf" and "gvg". Most collectors will find "vg+",
"vgf", "fine" and "vf" collectible, "vg" is quite often a
decent, presentable copy; "rc", "good" and "gvg" are
unacceptable although many collectors buy those grades to read
while protecting their file copy. If you have any disagreement
with my grading or have any problems with any book, please
return it for a full refund. Please don't
hesitate to write for specifics on any book. I will hold any
book while you wait for my reply. Use e-mail for immediate
response.
YOUR WANT LISTS - If you don't find what
you're looking for, please send your want lists.
MY WANT LIST - I'm a Fredric Brown collector and am interested in
anything you might have by him especially hardcovers and
foreign publishers, paperbacks and magazines too. I would like
to trade but will buy certain items.
I BUY COLLECTIONS
- I'm especially interested in vintage paperbacks
in excellent condition. Let me know what you have.
